Sophie Camille Mikaelson is a main character on Legacies and a recurring character on third, fourth, and fifth seasons on The Originals. Sophie is the pariah hybrid daughter of Davina Claire and Kol Mikaelson. She is the granddaughter of Mikael, Esther Mikaelson, Ms. Claire, and an unknown man. She is the niece of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah, and Henrik Mikaelson and the great-niece of Dahlia. She is also the cousin of Hope Mikaelson, the daughter of Klaus and Hayley and Nik, the son of Freya and Keelin.
She was named Sophie by her mother after Sophie Deveraux; because Sophie had saved Davina and helped her escape from Kara Nguyen when on the Ancestral Plane; while she was talking to Kol's spirit. Her middle name is Camille after one of her mother's close friend, Camille O'Connell and she takes the surname of her father's side. Sophie was conceived in The Originals season three episode An Old Friend Calls, after Kol had been resurrected by Davina. She was conceived while Kol was still being controlled by the Ancestors. In hopes that Kol would give into his bloodlust and kill Davina while she was pregnant with their unborn child, they cast a fertility spell on Davina, which helped her get pregnant. However, Davina outsmarted the Ancestors by using a spell that sped up her pregnancy and she gave birth only days after she found out. Davina planned to tell Kol when he was no longer under the ancestor's control. She also named Hayley Marshall-Kenner and Joshua Rosza Sophie's godmother and godfather. Unfortunately Davina never got the chance to tell Kol as he gave into his bloodlust and killed her.
While Sophie was staying with Hayley and Hope in Texas, she was registered in school under the name Sophie Marshall. After that Sophie had largely grew up travelling and didn't really have much stability. There were also moments throughout Sophie's childhood where her father would relapse into his homicidal tendencies and kill. He'd leave the house angry and come back a while later, covered in blood, which gave her a very conflicted sense of right and wrong. Sophie also lived in many foreign countries, making her well-versed in many different kids of magic and many languages.
Due to Kol and Davina being her parents, Sophie is the offspring of two powerful families; the Mikaelson family through her father and the Claire Family through her mother. Also despite the French Quarter Coven shunning Davina, Sophie was officially instated as a member of the coven by Vincent Griffith, shortly after her return to New Orleans. However, most of the coven despises Sophie for many reasons; two reasons being that she is the daughter of Kol Mikaelson and that she is half vampire. Many of the French Quarter Coven witches that attend the Salvatore Boarding School are known to treat Sophie very coldly. She's the first known hybrid of these species, but due to Kol's research in the past, and what is already known about hybrids, Sophie is presumed to become a full vampire when she dies, but retaining her magical abilities.
Sophie is a member of the Mikaelson Family and the Claire Family. Sophie is by birthright, a member of the French Quarter Coven; due to her ancestors being consecrated and buried within New Orleans.
Throughout The Originals[]
Season Three[]

Sophie is conceived in mid-season three, soon after Kol's resurrection. When Davina is offered the spell to revive him, she decides to attempt to contact Kol's spirit in the ancestral realm. During the visit, Davina and Kol are attacked by the spirit of Kara Nguyen, who Davina had killed during her time as French Quarter regent. They are saved by Sophie Deveraux, Davina's former enemy back in season one. Sophie helps Davina escape and saves her life, and even convinces Davina that she needs to leave Kol behind if she wants to live. Davina asks Sophie why she's helping her, and Sophie replies that her time in the ancestral realm made her realize that Davina didn't deserve to die, and niether did her neice, Monique. and if Sophie had the chance to save one of them, she was going to take it. Kol is resurrected soon after, and in his second episode back, they have sex for the first time, probably creating Sophie. While it's never specified, the most likely conclusion is that the fertility spell had already been cast when Kol was brought back. When Davina discovers that she's pregnant, she goes to Vincent for help. She admits that she doesn't want to tell Kol, because she's afraid of what he could do to the baby, and what that grief could do to him. Vincent gave her a spell to speed up her pregnancy, and convinced her that that was the best way to save both their lives. Before performing the spell, she nervously asked Hayley if she would be there with her, as she'd never given birth before. Hayley agreed. This resulted in Sophie being born only days after Davina found out, and presumeably a week or two after she was concieved. Davina gave birth to Sophie in the church attic, with only Josh, Vincent, Hayley and Marcel present. During the entire birth, Davina was channeling Vincent's magic, hoping that this would rise her chances of survival. When Sophie is born, Marcel comments that she's a beuatiful little witch, and that she looks like Davina. She disagrees and says that she looks like Kol. Davina makes them promise not to tell Kol, at least until she has a plan. She also names Hayley the godmother and Josh the godfather. Unfortunately, Davina fell victim to Kol's bloodlust before she had the chance to tell him. After they find out about her death, Marcel and Hayley agree not to tell anyone, for Sophie's safety. Sophie is only seen with Hayley from this point on. When Davina is pulled into the protective circle by Freya and Elijah, she still keeps her daughter a secret from Kol, unsure if he's still being controlled by the ancestors. However, afterwards while she speaks to Marcel, he convinces her to tell Kol about Sophie once she's resurrected. He says that while he may not like Kol, he would be a great father, and he deserves to know. Davina agrees, and they wait for Kol to return. But before he does, Freya realizes that she can send Davina to the ancestors and use the power to save her family. While Freya and Elijah are in the process of breaking the circle, Davina begs them not to, shouting that she has a daughter, and that it's Kol's, and that someone needs to protect her. This causes Elijah to falter, and he even tries to pull away from Freya, who's channeling him, but Freya continues and eventually manages to break the circle. Elijah asks if Freya thinks it's true, and she replies numbly that what's done is done, and that she was probably lying to save herself, but she doesn't look entirely convinced. After Vincent finds out what happens, he talks to Freya and confirms that Sophie is real, and leaves Freya in tears, dealing with the guilt that she just left a child motherless, and realizes that that is exactly the kind of thing that Dahlia would do. Sophie isn't brought to Davina's service. When Kol confronts Freya, she also doesn't tell him about Sophie, hoping to keep some blame off of herself. Davina's spirit is channeled by Vincent, and Kol gets to say one last goodbye. Once again, Davina fails to say anything about Sophie, but indicates that if he finds out about any secrets she had, to forgive her and assume she had her reasons. In season three, Sophie is last seen sleeping in the passenger's seat of the truck that Hayley drives to their new home in texas.
Season Four[]

Following Davina's death and Kol's confinment to the Chambre de Chasse, Hayley informally adopts Sophie, and raises her with Hope. Hayley tried her hardest to treat both girls like her own, but Sophie always felt left out, like she was second-best to Hope. She is first seen as a five-year-old, waiting with Mary while Hope and Hayley say goodbye, and it's obvious that Sophie feels left out. Mary says that it's alright, and that they'll have fun together, and picks up Sophie. Later that day, she's shown drawing with Hope, who is having a prophetic nightmare, but Sophie seems oblivious to this and continues to sketch a picture of a fox. She seems to have inherited some of Davina's talent for art, although she's not quite as good as Hope. At one point, they start arguing over a red pencil crayon. When the Mikaelsons come to stay at Hayley's, Kol is quite adamant about getting as far away from New Orleans as possible, and frustrated at staying with Hayley. He seems to calm down once he sees Hope, and goes inside without much protest. While he's sitting on the couch with Rebekah, Sophie wanders in, also having woken from a nap, and started asking for Hayley. Kol is initially confused, and wonders why Hayley never mentioned having another kid. He then notices that she looks a lot like Davina, and notice how Freya looks away guiltily. Hayley mentions softly that they should talk, and brings him into the kitchen to explain the situation. He lashes out at Freya, angrily saying that she had no right to keep this a secret from him for five years. Freya mentions briefly that she only knew because Davina tried to tell her, and that she thought it was a lie, leaving out the part where Vincent confirmed Sophie's existence. He nearly shouts at her, and he's visibly enraged, until Hayley motions that Sophie can hear them, being half-vampire. While this is going on, Rebekah has distracted Sophie, and is drawing with her. Kol goes out and begins to bond with Sophie. She asks who he is, and he replied that he's family, and that they're all family. She looks around briefly and replies that he can't be family, since her family is all dead. Hayley breaks the ice and suggests that Sophie go upstairs and show Kol around her room, and they go upstairs together. Kol discovers that she has many candles hidden away for secretly practicing magic late at night. Kol remarks how she reminds him of her mother, and when she asks who her mother is, Kol admits that she's dead, but he's her father. They immediately begin to bond more. Sophie is shown to have a similar personality to Kol's, being sneaky and slightly vengeful, especially when Hope wrecks her things. When she goes to sleep that night, Kol stays with her, unwilling to leave his daughter's side, even after Hayley suggests that he go to sleep. Late that night, Elijah joins him, and apologizes again for aiding in Davina's murder. He also says that Sophie looks just like him. Kol replies, "You shouldn't be here. You left her motherless. You did this." Respecting his brother's wishes, Elijah leaves. At the end of the episode, after thanking Hayley for taking care of Sophie for the five years he missed, he takes her, with the intentions of leaving. He finds that Rebekah already found a car and slit the throat of the driver. She said that she wants to go with him, and that she'd like to go to Saint Tropez. Kol agrees. However, even though they both thought that Sophie was asleep, she saw the murdered driver and saw that her aunt was covered in blood, which played a crucial part in her future personality. Later, when Klaus talks to Davina's spirit, she immediately asks about her daughter. Klaus replies that the beautiful little demon is well, and that Kol loves her, and so does he. When she asks about Kol, he replies that he's not mad, and he's spending time in the french rivera, and jokes that he'll return soon after he tells him how lovely she is, even in death. In Saint Tropez, she is seen walking between Kol and Rebekah down a street in the evening, practicing magic behind their backs. Kol sees her and affectionately picks her up, and says that she shouldn't do magic right out in the open. When she asks why, since Kol said that this was the part of town filled with other witches and vampires, Kol responded that not all vampires liked witches, and lots of witches didn't like him. They enter a vampire bar and Rebekah sits down with Sophie while Kol orders drinks. Only moments later vampires start dropping dead all around them, and they come to the conclusion that this can only mean that an Original was killed, and deduce that it was probably Elijah. Despite leaving Elijah on a bad note, Kol decides that he wants to kill whoever killed his brother. They return to New Orleans, where Kol goes with Klaus and Rebekah to find the Hollow's followers. Sophie stayed at the bar with Josh. Later, Kol became enraged at Klaus, who kept another opportunity to see Davina and to have Sophie meet her from them, and storms away. He immedeately picks up Sophie, and says that they're going on a bit of a trip, before going to collect some of his dark objects. He brought Sophie to the cemetary to bargain with the Harvest girls, hoping to exchange the objects for a chance to talk to her. The Harvest Girls refused, saying that they don't like doing favours for the Mikaelsons. Kol reminds them that Davina has a daughter, and that they should get to meet, and when the girls continue to refuse, Kol grows angry and threatens them. Because of this, they made Sophie pass out in his arms and snapped his neck, leaving the two on the ground while they took the dark objects for themselves. Later that night, after both had woken up, they sat and paid their respects at Davina's grave. Sophie asked why the witches would do something like that, and Kol replied that some people are good, and some are bad. He said that lots of witches won't like her because she's half vampire, and because of who her parents are. He also tells her that it doesn't matter, because one day she will be the greatest witch that they've ever seen. He told her that if people hurt her, she should hurt them back, because if she doesn't, they'll just keep hurting. After this, he gets a call from Rebekah, who says that she wants to stay in New Orleans, to see the war with the Hollow out, and requests that he does the same. Kol refused, and said that he couldn't handle staying and that it wasn't safe for him or for Sophie, before hanging up. Right after, the Hollow appeared to him. She offered to bring Davina back in exchange for his service, but Kol refused. She even offered to protect Sophie for him, but he responded that he could protect her just fine himself. Surprisingly, the Hollow revealed Davina, contained in a magical circle, and explained that she was linked to her, meaning that if the Hollow died then so would Davina. Later, he met up with Davina in the church attick, with Sophie. She immedeately hugged her daughter, after having not seen her since days after her birth. While Sophie hadn't actually met Davina, she explained that she could feel Davina's magic. She got to hold Sophie while explaining to Kol that he shouldn't worry about her and destory the Hollow, since it meant Sophie was safe. Kol refused, and said that losing her broke him, and that he wasn't about to let it happen again. He also said that she deserved to know her daughter, and that he wasn't going to let them get seperated. When she reminded him that it meant betraying his family, Kol said that she and Sophie were his family, and that he wasn't going to lose them. He also joked that betraying his siblings was his specialty. While Kol went downstairs to meet with the Hollow, Sophie stayed with Davina, getting to know her better. Davina asks what she likes to do, and Sophie responds that she likes music. Davina points to the piano in the corner, and explains that she can't cross the circle, but when she can, she'll teach Sophie to play. They spend all day learning magic. Later, when Kol convinces Hope to focus on the spell and free Davina, Hope asks why Sophie can't do it. He replies that Sophie's with her mother, and that he didn't want to take that time away from her. Then, he fights with Klaus. When Klaus has a dagger pointed at his heart, He begged Klaus not to do it yet, telling him he'd gone one thousand years without knowing love or peace and he finally found it with Davina and Sophie. He then asked Klaus if he would have done it differently than he had if it was Camille and Hope. Hope sucessfully completed the spell and freed Davina. Later, Kol met with Davina, who was waiting by his car with Sophie and Josh. Kol asked where they would go, and Davina, who was holding Sophie tight, suggested that they could go anywhere. Kol said that they could go everywhere. This was the beginning of Sophie's childhood that centered around travelling all over the world. In San Francisco, Kol and Sophie go into a jeweler with the paragon diamond. Kol says that it's a surprise for her mum and she has to keep it a secret, which makes Sophie laugh. He asks the jeweler to make it into a necklace, a pair of earrings and a massive engagement ring. He recieved a text from Davina, and told her that he was on his way with gifts, planning to propose.
Season Five[]

One year prior to when the fifth season begins, Sophie is sent to the Salvatore school, much to her own disappointment. Apparently, her parents made the decision to send her when she involuntarily set a teacher on fire while overreacting to a bad grade. They realized that while she knew a great deal bout magic, she didn't know much about controlling her magic. Sophie is first seen at the Salvatore school with Hope, trying to convince her to sell her blood. Originally, Hope isn't sure, but eventually caves when Henry Benoit comes in, and Sophie admits that she already said that she was selling it. Unfortunately, this caused Hope to get suspended, and Sophie waited in their shared room, hoping that she wouldn't get suspended too. Thankfully, when Dorian comes back with the news, Hope didn't throw Sophie under the bus, even though she probably should have. Sophie remarks that had it been the other way around, she definitely would have blamed Hope. Hope does, however, mention to Kol on the phone that the whole thing was her fault anyway, and Kol says that he's going to have a talk with her. He also mentions that some crisis will probably bring them all back together. In the next episode, she gets into an argument with a young french quarter witch, Emmeline, which ultimately ends with Sophie using dark magic to give Emmeline an extremely painful headache. Dorian comes around and alerts her that her father is coming to talk to her. When she asks if she's being suspended, thinking back to the blood ordeal, he explains that she was only suppsoed to get a detention, but her father wants to come talk to her anyway. Apparently, Lizzie Saltzman told on her for selling herbs and dark objects around the school. While Kol acted disappointed while picking her up, they spend a day out in mystic falls and he was secretly proud of her for not listening to Alaric, and for standing up for herself. When she mentioned that she had used dark magic on Emmeline, however, Kol became slightly more angry and reminded her that she wasn't supposed to use dark magic unless she absolutely needed to. She questions why they taught her dark magic, and he replies that it's only in case she ever needs to defend herself against one of his or Davina's old enemies. In the next episode, Sophie and Hope are in their shared room, going over some ancient spells when Freya comes to visit them. Freya asks what they're working on and Sophie quickly lies and says homework. Even though they seem to be on decent terms, Sophie is still slightly cold towards Freya, still bitter that she killed Davina fourteen years ago. Freya apologizes once again and asks if Sophie wants to come walk around with them, she refuses, and says that she has a project to catch up on. Later on, however, Hope admits that they were actually trying to find a way to find Hayley. This shows that Sophie still does care about Hayley, since she took care of her for the first fourteen years of her life. The next time Sophie is seen is with Freya, standing over Hope. Despite not having much of a soft side, Sophie hugs Hope while she cries, but leaves soon after. She is sitting up onn the roof of the school when Freya finds her, and they talk. Sophie mentions that Hayley took care of her for five years, even when she had no reason to. They weren't related, and she wasn't even friends with Sophie's parents. When she asks who would do that, Freya replies with, "A really good person. Someone who knows what it's like not to have parents." Sophie mentions sadly that she forgives Hayley for not really treating her the same way as Hope, and that she wishes she could tell her. Later on, Sophie's in New Orleans for Hayley's funeral. While walking down the street, she calls Marcel and asks where he is, snapping at him and saying that he should be here for Hope. He tells her he just needs a little bit more time, and Sophie threatens him before hanging up. When Emmett and his vampires show up, instead of letting Hope take them on alone, Sophie takes Hope's hand and they set the truck on fire together. Hope remarks that she doesn't usually do that, and Sophie says that she needed an outlet for all her inner rage. At the funeral, she stands by Marcel, who has an arm around her shoulders. While she's not shown in the next episode, Sophie is seen in some flashbacks and photos. She's helping Hope trap their family in the Chambre de Chasse. While there, Kol pulls the works of Shakespeare from a bookshelf, and mentions to Elijah that he and Davina gave those to Sophie for her eleventh birthday. Later on, he and Freya discover an old dark grimoire of Kol's, which he had also passed on to Sophie. Kol realizes that the grimoire never actually ended up in the hosue, but Sophie doesn't know that, and they realize that Sophie must be helping Hope with the spell. Later on, Freya confirms this when she admits that she had been working with both girls to remove the peices of the Hollow from them. Instead of returning to the school after all of this, Sophie returns to San Francisco with her parents. One day, she tells her parents that she's going out to meet with some friends. Kol gets suspicious and asks who, mostly because he's still weary of everything she's gotten involved in in the past few weeks. Ignoring his question, Sophie opens the door to reveal Klaus, who is waiting inside. Sophie can't remember actually meeting Klaus, and her last memory of him is hearing how he almost took her father away from her. Kol appears immedeately, shielding his daughter from him, he asks what he's doing there. Klaus admits that he's actually looking for Davina, who he thinks could help Hope. Despite not needing her help, Sophie decides to go with her mother to see if there's any way she could help Hope. Later, they go to Freya and Keelin's wedding. Sophie stands at the altar with her father while he gives a speech, and later dances with Hope and Keelin. She celebrates with her family and even gets a chance to dance with her father and formally meet Klaus, who apologized for nearly killing her father seven years ago, and she responds that it's okay. In the last episode, she is in New Orleans with her father when Klaus decides to die for his daughter. While Sophie didn't want to leave Hope alone for this, Kol saw Klaus' death as melodrama and they argued while leaving New Orleans. Sophie snapped that his brother had decided to die, and of course he wants to say goodbye to Kol. Kol is unconvinced yet again, and retorts that Klaus hates him. Sophie gets angered by this and replies that if he won't be there for Klaus then he should at least be there for Hope. Kol bitterly responds that Hope has lots of people there for her, and that she didn't need them. When Sophie opened her mouth to yell at him to go back, she instead had to scream at him to make sure he stopped and didn't hit Rebekah. She and Kol got into an argument, with Rebekah claiming Kol was running like a rodent when his family needed him. Sophie agreed, and sided with Rebekah. Kol countered that she was unable to accept happiness and moving on, too caught up in the toxicity of their family. He reminded her that Klaus had daggered them countless times and maybe they should be celebrating if he was really going to be gone. Despite Rebekah's protests, Kol told her that he never bought into "always and forever" and she furiously stormed away, ashamed of how her brother was acting. Sophie paused before getting back in the car with Kol, not sure whether to follow Rebekah or stay with him. Eventually she got back in the car with her father. He said he was sorry, but he just couldn't go back, and Sophie didn't reply. However, they showed up at the last moment to Klaus' last supper. Sophie had managed to convince Kol and caused him a change of heart, and the three of them showed up. Sophie stood by Rebekah while Klaus and Kol shared a hug, and asked if that had ever happened. Rebekah jokes that she hadn't seen it in a thousand years. Klaus even adressed Sophie, and said that he really was sorry that he missed out on so much of her childhood. He said that Kol had always been there for his daughter, while he hadn't been there for Sophie. They got to share a hug too. Despite not knowing them very well, Sophie cries a little bit when Elijah and Klaus leave to die on their own terms. The last she's seen in The Originals is hugging her father.

Personality[]

Since Sophie didn't grow up in a normal school environment, and even though she has been at the Salvatore school since she was thirteen, Sophie doesn't have as much of a sense of right and wrong, and she struggles with things like Math and Science. Despite an being incredibly smart and logical person, and someone that everyone always goes to when concocting a plan, It's harder for Sophie to work with numbers. Sophie is incredibly talented when it comes to the more artistic parts of school such as music and language studies, as well as all kinds of magic and supernatural history. Sophie's personality is incredibly similar to her father's; she is wily, unpredictable, witty, vengeful and can often be very dangerous because of her anger issues. She struggles with her self-image and has a much weaker sense of right and wrong, and she was taught by her parents at a young age that she should harm those that harm her. When very angry or when she's turned off emotions, Sophie can become incredibly sadistic. She's also naturally vindictive, and while she always comes up with a plan, she often takes a game-like approach to them. Once, she said to Lizzie Saltzman, "I only lose when there's nothing to gain by winning." In The Originals, Sophie and Hope seemed to have a relatively close relationship. After the death of her parents, Hope became much more sheltered and focused on her studies. Because of this, Sophie often acts out in attempts for attention, because although she would never admit it, she wants to have that bond with Hope. Once Lizzie and Josie became closer to Hope than she was, Sophie's jealousy grew. Sophie struggles with the fear of abandonment, much like her father, and covers it up with a mask of indefference, pretending not to care about anything or anyone. When faced with most tasks, Sophie either manipulates others into doing it for her, or does it with an unmatchable determination. She comes across as cunning, petty and unapproachable, but really cares for her family and is often hurt that Hope chooses her friends over her. Sophie is incerdibly dangerous when it comes to her family and people she cares about, but due to her psychotic family history, has a hard time creating bonds with other people. However, she does extremely care about her family, which was even shown when Sophie refused to turn into a full vampire, because she didn't want to outlive her mother. Sophie has an extreme amount of emotional complexity. She saw a lot of horrifying things at a very young age, and also watched her father dissappear and return covered in blood, and nobody really explained to her what's considered right and wrong. Sophie tries very hard not to kill anyone, since she doesn't want to become a full vampire, but has no problem healing people with her blood after causing them pain.
Physical Appearance[]

Sophie is known to have inherited both of her parents' good look. What makes her distinguishable is her dark brown hair and her paler complexion. Like her mother, she has high cheekbones. Also while her mother's eyes are blue and her father's eyes are brown; Sophie has hazel, almost brownish-green, eyes. As a child, Sophie's hair was a warmer brown and mostly straight.
As a teenager; Sophie's hair become wavier, bordering on the side of being curly. She also has an athletic build, that is more on the thinner side; and she also has dark eyebrows. When at school, Sophie would tend to stray away from the school uniform as much as she could. While Sophie had usually wore a skirt or a pair of leggings in the school colors; Sophie usually wore a white, lose knitted sweater and a pair of leather boots.
Sophie is also shown to wear Katherine Pierce's cameo necklace, which Sophie claims she found in the Salvatore School archives down in the basement. Sophie's hair can sometimes be seen up in a bun and other times, her hair can be seen loose. When in Mystic Falls, Sophie tends to dress very similar to her mother, Davina.
She has and owns many leather jackets and often wears jeans. When in New Orleans, Sophie tends to dress in and tops and tight pants. When she stayed with Vincent while in New Orleans, Sophie wore many tight tank tops and long sweaters and her hair was almost always seen loose.
Overall, Sophie is depicted as a beautiful young lady that is quickly growing into her features. At first glance, Sophie looks alot like her father Kol, but her style is known to be more similar to her mother Davina's.
Powers and Abilities[]
As the world's first true hybrid of these two supernatural species - a witch and a vampire; the full extent and limits of Sophie's powers are currently unknown.
Witch-Nature[]
Sophie is a witch-hybrid; having inherited her witch gene from her father Kol Mikaelson, the son of Esther Mikaelson and her mother, Davina Claire. Sophie has shown to be an incredibly strong witch, which is largely due to her parentage. Like many witches, her powers are tied to her emotions, and the angrier she is the stronger her magic is. Sophie is also very knowledgeable about magic, having learnt about many different forms of magic from a young age.
Vampire-Nature[]
Although Sophie is not a full vampire-hybrid; she possesses a few vampiric traits, specifically her blood. Her blood can be used to sire new vampires and potentially witch-vampire hybrids. Unlike Hope, Sophie also has the ability to compel humans, like when she compelled Dorian. If Sophie were to die, she would become a full vampire and would retain her ability do do magic, mimicking the traits of a Heretic. While Sophie does not have a bloodlust, she is able to digest blood and it makes her stronger.
Weaknesses[]
As the world's first true hybrid of these two supernatural species, the full extent and limits of Sophie's weaknesses are currently unknown. Sophie has some of the typical weaknesses of a Vampire; vervain, decapitation, heart extraction, and possibly being staked in the heart, but as the original vampires can't be killed with a stake, it's unknown if this could kill Sophie. However, as a witch/vampire hybrid, Sophie is one of the most unkillable supernatural creatures.
Relationships[]
Davina Claire[]
"I used to play piano. You see that? I used to play that all the time. I loved it. I can't leave the circle right now, but I promise you that as soon as I can, I'm going to teach you all my favorite songs, okay?"
- Davina to Sophie
Davina Claire is Sophie's mother. Despite being dead for the first few years of Sophie's life, Davina is shown to love her daughter deeply. She's willing to do anything to protect her, as shown when Freya was in the process of breaking the circle and Davina begged her not to, only so that she could stay with her daughter, which is something that Davina had never done until that point. Even though Sophie was still a newborn when Davina died, she had already formed a close bond with her mother, which is why Sophie could recognize Davina's magic when she was first resurrected. Davina was originally scared to have a child, as her own mother sacrificed her to the Harvest ritual, but quickly realized that the best she could do was love and protect her daughter at all costs, and hope that that was enough. As a teenager, Sophie has a very closer relationship with her mother, even admitting to Hope that she never wanted to become a full vampire, because she didn't want to outlive her mother. While most teenagers don't like talking to their parents, Sophie seems very comfortable talking to her mother about her problems. Davina is willing to do anything to protect her daughter, and she was even willing to die again if the Hollow was destroyed, so that Kol and Sophie could live out their lives. She was also willing to hide Sophie from Kol, no matter how much he deserved to know her, because she was afriad of giving the ancestors exactly what they wanted.
Kol Mikaelson[]
"Darling, you'll find that some people in life are good, and some are bad. There are lots of bad people in the world who won't like you, because you're different, and because of me. But none of that matters, because some day, a long time from now, you'll be the strongest witch this world has ever seen. And if those people try to hurt you, hurt them right back."
- Kol to Sophie
Kol is Sophie's father, and even though he missed the first few years of Sophie's life, he has shown to love her more than anyone else in the world, save for Davina, and would do anything to protect her. Despite having a childish personality, Kol manages to be grown-up enough to be a good parent, such as when he reprimanded Sophie for using dark magic against a classmate, and told Hope that he would talk to her for selling dark objects and herbs around the school. He also seems to let her get away with a lot, such as instead of punishing her, he chose to take her out of school for the day because she didn't listen to Alaric, who was one of Kol's old enemies in the past. He has shown that he has the ability to put pettiness aside when it comes to his daughter, especially since he sent her to the Salvatore School, which was run by Alaric Saltzman, who aided in many murder attempts against Kol. Sophie inhertied many of Kol's personality traits, including childlike pettiness, wiliness, and an extreme throughness when it comes to revenge plots or competitions. Sophie also inherited a dislike for Damon Salvatore, probably based on stories that Kol told her during her childhood. When Sophie explained Damon's history to Landon, she summed it up by saying that he spent most of his life as a psycopath, but then he fell in love with Alaric's step-daughter and his brother died, so they gave him a plaque. She also mentioned how Kol beat him up with a baseball bat, and said that he probably deserved it. Kol loves his daughter very much, and was fully prepared to raise her on his own, despite only finding out about her existence a few weeks earlier.
Hayley Marshall-Kenner[]
"She raised me. For five years, she raised me. And it's not like she had a reason to. I wasn't her kid, I wasn't even her niece. But she did it anyway, and she loved me when I had no one else, and she didn't stop loving me when I got people. Who does that?"
- Sophie to Freya about Hayley
Hayley is Sophie's godmother and her former legal guardian. While Hayley was never as close to Sophie as she was to Hope, she tried her best to treat both like her own children. Hayley cares for Sophie deeply, and even tried to keep Kol from taking her, explaining that it was bad for kids not to have stability. According to Sophie, Hayley sent her a christmas and birthday present every year, and even took Hope to visit them once or twice. Despite getting her mother back when she was five, Sophie always retained her bond with Hayley, and was almost as distraught over her death as Hope was. Hayley loved Sophie like her own, but never tried to replace her biological parents. Sophie mentions multiple times that staying with Hayley and Hope was hard, because she was never as loved as Hope, but they were also some of the best years of her life, since they were so stable and straightforward. Sophie didn't have a bracelet to contain her magic as a young child the same way Hope did, but she had many candles hidden away in her bedroom at Hayley's, for practicing magic.
Hope Mikaelson[]
Sophie and Hope are first cousins and former adopted sisters. Sophie and Hope seemed to have a sisterly bond as kids, and would frequently argue over trivial things like pencil crayons and clothes. as a kid, Sophie loved to create elaborate revenge plots whenever Hope ruined her things. Sophie became slightly dependent on Hope, even for the years that they rarely saw each other, Sophie became attached to Hope and saw her as a close friend, possibly even her best friend. During legacies, Sophie got frustrated when Hope began distancing herself, and got jealous when she became closer to Lizzie and Josie than she was to her. Hope and Sophie share a dorm room at the Salvatore school, but don't seem to be as close to each other as they were before Klaus' death.
Josie Saltzman[]
Josie is a friend of Sophie's, and her former crush. Sophie and Josie presumeably met when Sophie first enrolled at the school, since she and Lizzie often do the introductions. Sophie admitted to Hope that she started crushing on Josie when they worked on a project together for supernatural history, but the crush stopped soon after the project ended with Sophie setting the curtains on fire in anger. For the first few episodes, Josie considers Sophie rude and a know-it-all, and Sophie thinks of Josie as a pushover, but this ends when they start working together to use their magic. Sophie quickly becomes jealous and frustrated when Hope begins drifting towards Josie instead of her, and goes out of her way to bother Josie. After a while, she realizes that this is pointless and becomes an acquaintance of Josie's, and ultimately a friend.
Other Relationships[]
Name[]
- Sophie is the French variant of the name Sophia, which is derived from the Greek word sophia (σοφία) and means "wisdom".[1]
- Camille is a unisex French variant of the name Camilla. The meaning of the name is "young ceremonial attendant".[2]
- Mikaelson is of Scandinavian origin and means "Son of Mikael".
- If Sophie was truly to follow Norse traditions, then her surname should technically be Kolsdottir (daughter of Kol) opposed to Mikaelson (son of Mikael).
Trivia[]
- Sophie is the first known full witch/vampire hybrid
- In Legacies, Sophie reveals that she had lived in 32 countries before she knew her 12 times table
- Sophie is the result of a fertility spell being placed upon Davina by the ancestors
- It's assumed that the spell was cast by either Dahlia or Esther, since they are the only ones who are associated with the spell
- Since Hope's blood can sire Hybrids, it's possible that Sophie's blood could sire Pariahs, or witch/vampire hybrids
- Once, Sophie mentions that she's afraid of becoming a full vampire, because that would mean she would outlive her mother. Because of this, it's possible that if she does become a full vampire, she would attempt to turn Davina, hoping that she would also retain her magic.
- Klaus calls Sophie 'The Beautiful Little Demon' and mentions that Kol loves her, and so does he. This implies that Klaus did care about Sophie and had an intention on being part of her life, and possibly was before he cut off all communications with his family.
- Sophie's relationship with most of her family is strained, since she didn't know any of them very well, and none of them knew of her existence. However, she does seem to have a close relationship with Rebekah and Marcel, and she possibly stayed with them multiple times during her childhood. She also seemed to be comfortable around both of them in season five, more comfortable than any of her other aunts or uncles.
- her relationship with Freya is very cold and tainted, since Freya killed Davina and neglected to tell Kol about Sophie for five years. however, they shared a moment after Hayley's death, meaning that they could have moved past it.
Tropes[]
- Hybrid Power —Hope has demonstrated magic abilities from her witch side and healing abilities from her vampire side though latter power is slower than a full vampire's healing factor.
